Here are a few simple ideas.
Prisons in the U. S. are flooded, overflowing beyond capacities!
Truth in sentencing laws, which require some inmates to stay the
full term of their conviction, take the “good behavior” motivation
right out of the picture. These walls were meant for confinement &
rehabilitation – not a lifelong room & board on taxpayer $’s.
Rehabilitate them if possible, and create working members
(taxpayers) of society ASAP. Give the prisons the ability & tools to
do their job more efficiently. What do you think?
Here is another idea – ALL Americans
who turn 18 years of age shall participate in either 1 year of civil
duty or 2 years of military service. In return, America gets a
youthful energy for infrastructure projects, forestry & yes, even a
military influx. Participants will receive direction at an age when
most need help in determining their future. From Senators’ sons &
Presidents’ daughters, to the poorest of the poor, all will have the
same opportunities to carve a new future for themselves in a new
society based on fairness – not on social status. A determining
factor on what role our youth may play in this program could be
based on their grades in school – no child left behind! With an
increased emphasis on school, how could that hurt anything? Plus the
government could provide room & board during the obligation and when
they have completed the experience, they would receive 2 years of
community college of their choice (4 years if they chose the
military). Can you imagine paid college for everyone? Think of all
the benefits our America could inherit with this one simple idea!
Here's a
good idea from Dave V. from our sound off page titled "Urine" or
you're out. I say why not? Millions of taxpayer $$'s are used or
abused daily on social programs. Most programs are meant to help the
needy or down on their luck types, but too often greedy opportunists
are there to take their slice. Even honest people are tempted into
committing fraud at taxpayers' expense. Main Street Americans must
meet drug-free criteria to get and keep jobs to pay taxes so that
these social programs can continue. Yet those who barter food stamps
for drugs and alcohol are somehow excused from having the same
rules. This is just unfair! Let's change the rules and see how much
we save. Thanks Dave V.
Term Limits
- This is a simple way to change government. Limit how long a person
can try to self-preserve and maybe, just maybe, they might take the
short time for public service, to do some good! This also provides a
constant supply of fresh ideas and input, along with new chances for
some who wish to serve, but do not want to make it their career
choice. What do you think?
We look
forward to hearing your ideas.
